Ayepyep Lifestyle lounges put operations on hold following death of DJ Sumbody | Channel

Ayepyep Lifestyle lounges in Menlyn, Pretoria, and Cape Town have put operations on hold following the death of co-founder, amapiano pioneer and DJ, Oupa ‘DJ Sumbody’ Sefoka.

Sefoka was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in Johannesburg in the early hours of Sunday morning. The Monate Mpolaye hitmaker and his driver and bodyguard, known as Wolter Sbusiso, were declared dead at the scene. A third person, travelling in a separate car, was seriously injured after sustaining gunshot wounds.

Ayepyep management announced the temporary closure of the establishments on social media. They closed their doors on Monday, 21 November and will reopen a week later, on Monday, 28 November.

In a second post, management said flower drop-offs at the doors of both establishments were welcome between Monday and Friday, 25 November.

Per a statement issued by family spokesperson Mmanake Mokitimi, “details surrounding his passing cannot be disclosed as investigations are still ongoing”. Sefoka’s Sumsounds Music Management and family also requested privacy.

The annual DJ Sumbody All White Veuve Cliquot Picnic was cancelled on Sunday. The event was scheduled to take place later in the day.

Meanwhile, Gauteng police said they were searching for the suspects involved in the shooting.
